CLASSIC BURGER AND WEDGES

Burgers are super easy to make at home. They’re also healthier and much cheaper than getting a takeaway – win-win! Get the kids involved and have some burger fun!

INGREDIENTS

SERVES: 4

For the burger:

1 onion

500g pack 5% fat beef mince

1 tsp American mustard (optional)

1 tbsp tomato ketchup 

4 burger buns

1 large tomato

2 handfuls iceberg lettuce, shredded 

4 slices of cheese (optional) 

Your favourite sauce for serving (e.g. mustard, ketchup, BBQ) (optional)

 

For the wedges:

4 medium sized potatoes

2 tbsp vegetable oil 

A pinch of dried herbs 

METHOD

1: Put the oven on at 200C.

2: For the wedges, wash the potatoes and cut them into chunky wedges. Pop them in a bowl and add the vegetable oil, and dried herbs. Toss it all together, then place the wedges on a baking tray. Roast in the hot oven for 40 minutes until golden and crispy, turning them halfway through. 

3: Next, make the burgers. Peel and roughly chop the onion, then add this to a bowl along with the mince, mustard and tomato ketchup. Using your hands, mix together so it’s well combined. Divide the mixture into 4 balls and shape into patties. If not cooking straight away, pop them in the fridge until ready to cook.

4: Heat a large non-stick frying pan. Once hot, add the patties, squashing slightly to flatten them with the back of a spoon. Cook on a high heat for 5 minutes on each side, until cooked through. If using, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty and turn off the heat. Leave for a minute or so to let the cheese start to melt. 

5: To assemble, slice the burger buns in half and then slice up the tomato and cut up the lettuce leaves. Add a squeeze of ketchup, or your favourite sauce, to the bottom half of each bun and place a couple of slices of tomato on top. Then add some lettuce before adding the burger patties. Finally, squeeze a bit of mustard onto the top half of the bun and pop this on top of the patty.

6: Serve with the potato wedges hot from the oven. There you go! Burgers at home.
