INTRODUCING FRO COCKTAILS
Cocktail maestro Fro shares how to make some of our favourite cocktail and mocktail classics.
Negroni
The Negroni is a popular Italian drink that is usually enjoyed as an aperitif. Traditionally, a Negroni is stirred, not shaken and is served neatly over ice.
Ingredients:
- Chase GB Gin
- Campari (Italian aperitif)
- Mancino Rosso (Martini Rosso)
- Ice
- An Orange
Method:
- Fill pint glass/beaker with ice.
- Add equal parts of Gin, Campari and Mancino Rosso.
- Stir well with a spoon for 15 seconds to allow the ice to gently dilute the mix for a softer drink.
- Fill serving glass with ice.
- Sieve mixture into serving glass.
- Add a strip of orange peel to decorate.
Mojito
The Mojito is a traditional Cuban beverage in which the white rum is complemented by the sweet citrus and mint combination.
Ingredients:
- Plain White Rum
- Mint Leaves
- Crushed Ice
- Sugar
- Two limes
Method:
- Place ice in a tea towel and smash with a rolling pin.
- Squeeze the juice of a whole lime into two serving glasses.
- Grab some mint and slap it in your hands to release the oils and spread it between the glasses.
- Add 2-3 spoons of sugar into each glass.
- Use a spoon to muddle together the mint leaves, sugar and lime juice.
- Add the crushed ice.
- Add a double shot of white rum into one glass and shake with your hand over the top.
- Finish the drink off with sparkling water and a sprig of mint and serve.
Bloody Mary
The Bloody Mary cocktail is a classic, known worldwide and hailed for its hangover-curing qualities. Served with extravagant garnishes, this cocktail is really fun to make and personalise.
Ingredients:
- Passata/Tomato Juice
- Vodka
- Worcester Sauce
- Tabasco
- Marmite
- Beef Stock
- Celery
Method:
- At a double shot of vodka to a glass.
- Fill ¾ of the glass with tomato juice.
- Add a teaspoon of marmite and stir well.
- Add 3-4 drops of Worcester sauce and 5 drops of Tabasco.
- Sprinkle on sparingly, the beef oxo cube and stir well.
- Add ice, and a stick of celery.
- Decorate with celery leaves and serve.
Expresso Martini
The Expresso Martini is an elegant classic. Though it isn’t a true martini, as it doesn’t contain gin or vermouth, it has become a flavour favourite amongst cocktail and coffee lovers alike.
Ingredients:
- Instant coffee/ an expresso shot
- Coffee liqueur – such as Tia Maria
- Vodka
- Ice
- Sugar
- A splash of hot water
Method:
- Half fill the shaker with ice.
- Add 30ml of Chase vodka.
- Add 25ml of coffee liqueur.
- Add in two teaspoons of coffee grounds along with two teaspoons of sugar.
- Add a splash of hot water to mix in the grounds.
- Shake well to create lots of small bubbles for a nice volume.
- Sieve into a glass and serve.
Jazzed Up Hot Chocolate
This recipe takes ordinary hot chocolate to new levels of extravagance. With the addition of Baileys, your hot chocolate will become more luxurious than ever before.
Ingredients:
- Baileys
- Milk
- Hot chocolate powder
- Sugar
Method:
- Pour the milk into the mug until half full and microwave until hot (about 2 minutes).
- Stir in 2 teaspoons hot chocolate powder and a teaspoon of sugar.
- Pour in 50ml of Baileys and stir.
Classic Champagne Cocktail
You don’t have to use champagne for this, any sparkling wine will do. The additional liqueurs and sugar cube reinvent sparkling wine into a fizzy and flavourful cocktail.
Ingredients:
- Champagne or Sparkling Wine
- Brandy
- Angostura Bitters
- Brown Sugar Cube
Method:
- Place the brown sugar cube in a glass.
- Pour 3 dashes of Angostura Bitters onto the sugar.
- Add a small splash of brandy.
- Top it off with champagne or a sparkling wine of your choice.
Ginger, Spice and All Things Nice Mocktail
This recipe includes a fun apple garnish trick to take your cocktail skills to the next level. This is another great mocktail for everyone to enjoy.
Ingredients:
- Ginger Ale
- Apple Juice
- Honey or Agave syrup
- Apple to garnish
Method:
- Slice off a quarter of an apple and maintaining its shape, slice the section into small slithers of apple.
- Once sliced, spread the top of each slice out with the bottom of each slice remaining together, to create the apple fan garnish. Squeeze the bottoms of the slices together to help the sugars stick it together.
- Fill ¼ of a glass with apple juice.
- Add ¼ glass of ginger ale.
- Add a teaspoon of honey or agave syrup and stir well.
- Add ice to the glass, and garnish with the apple fan.
Kids Jam Jar mocktails
Don’t throw away that near-empty jar of jam, turn it into a gorgeous mocktail that’s fun and easy for everyone to enjoy!
Ingredients:
- An almost empty jam jar (with a couple of spoons of jam still left in the bottom)
- Cranberry juice
- Half a lime
- Lemonade
Method:
- Pour cranberry juice into the jam jar until ¾ full.
- Add the juice of half a lime.
- Put the lid on and shake well.
- Top with a splash of lemonade.
- Either serve in a glass or the jam jar and garnish with a wedge of lime.
